Immediate Implants

Immediate Implants India

Immediate implants are also known as one day or same day implants. This is the case whereby dental implants can be placed at the same time after teeth are extracted.

Due to implant material, techniques and technological developments, the completion time for conventional dental implants has now been cut short from 8 months to 2 months.

In cases where bone condition and density are favourable, dental implants can now be embedded after tooth extraction. Such techniques being referred to as immediate implants, one-day implants, single day implants or same day implants. This means that the patient have new tooth roots upon leaving the office. Below is the dental implant process for same day implants or immediate implants:

  1. Tooth extraction

  2. Implant post placement

  3. Make and Fit Prosthetics on implant

With a same day implant procedure, phase 1 and 2 are done during the same surgical

visit. This means that a patient has new tooth roots in place on the same day the tooth

is removed.

Whether phase 3, whereby the crown, bridge or dentures, on implant is loaded during the same period (i.e. immediate loaded implants) will be dependent on bone and case conditions. Provisional tempories (such as partial denture, full denture or temporary bridge) may be worn during the healing phase so that the individual is with teeth at all times.

Why Same Day Dental Implant Procedure

  • immediate implants are placed in one simple procedure with the need for a second periodontal uncovering process

  • jawbone does not deteriorate after tooth extraction

  • the patient undergoes less treatment timings at the dentist office meaning shorter treatment time, less trauma to the patient and an overall better patient experience

Contra-indications for same day implant procedure

Your dentist or periodontist need to perform a comprehensive assessment before determing if immediate dental implants are suited for each individual's case. Immediate implants requires:

  • Adequate bone that is able to support the dental implant

  • Scrupulous good oral hygiene

  • Good general overall health

  • Absence of teeth grinding habits

  • Willingness to adhere to a soft diet for 8 to 12 weeks post surgery

Immediate Implant Placement in Extraction Socket

For certain cases, permanent or temporary prosthetics may be loaded immediately during the same treatment visit when the dental implants are surgical placed. This is know as immediate loaded implants. The immediate loading of dental implants shortens the treatment time and makes it possible to give the patient an esthetic appearance during the whole treatment period.

New prefabricated components such as ITI Straumann's implant system as well as Nobel Biocare's Branemark, Replace Select Straight, Replace Select Tapered Dental, Nobel Direct, Nobel Prefect Implant System now enables shorter treatment time. These prefabricated components are made to fit practically all types of mandible and enables adjustments to be made in meeting individual esthetic and functional needs.

Immediate loaded implants or immediate function implants is the case whereby the prosthetics or false teeth are placed onto the dental implant posts during the same phase after placement. Below is dental implant process for immedate load implants:

  1. Tooth extraction (if required)

  2. Implant post placement

  3. Make and Fit Prosthetics on implant

With a immediate loaded dental implants procedure, phase 2 and 3 are done

during the same phase. This means that a patient has new teeth in place

during the same trip the implant posts in placed.

Immediate load implants enables immediate function of teeth.

Load

Why Immediate Loaded Dental Implants Procedure

  • prosthesis is placed shortly after implant placement enabling immediate function of teeth

  • dental implant treatment timings is shorten with less trauma and an overall better patient experience

Contra-indications for Immediate Loaded Dental Implants Procedure

Your dentist or periodontist need to perform a comprehensive assessment before determing if immediate load dental implants are suited for each individual's case. Immediate load implants requires:

  • Adequate bone that is able to support the dental implant

  • Scrupulous good oral hygiene

  • Good general overall health

  • Absence of teeth grinding habits

  • Willingness to adhere to a soft diet for 8 to 12 weeks post surgery

Benefits of Immediate Loaded Implants

  • Good esthetic results

  • Shorter treatment time with minimized pain

  • Immediately functioning teeth

However, immediate loaded implants does not apply to all cases and is largely dependent on the individual's bone quality and condition.

There are certain conditions that preclude the procedure of immediate loading. The decision to immediately load the implant is largely dependent on a large extent on the clinical judgment of the operating surgeon. However, certain rules must be kept in mind:

  • The patient should be healthy and compliant with good oral hygiene.

  • Good bone quality and quantity is a prime requirement for immediate implants to be successful

  • The site selected for immediate loading should be free from any infection. Infact even the neighboring teeth should be free from radiologic/clinical signs of infection.

  • Even in good bone quality and quantity cases, if the drilling technique removes a lot of bone so that primary implant stability is not attained, immediate loading should not be attempted.

  • Stable relationships between opposing teeth.

Following placement of the artificial roots in the jaw, the bone may be sore and the surrounding gums tender and swollen. Patients are, however, able to go about their normal daily activities a day after surgery avoiding any rigorous physical exercises or activities.

For your immediate loaded implants, the same postcare instructions apply as that of conventional dental implants. Dental implants require the same care as real teeth, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups.
