Deciding whether to travel

Why travel to another country for dental treatment?

The usual reason is access to established dental care at a substantially lower cost than in the United States, United Kingdom or Australia. Cost should not be the only factor, though. What matters alongside it is the clinic's technology, the clinician's qualifications, the materials and implant systems used, sterilisation standards and whether the treatment plan is realistic for the time you have. A decision made on price alone is the one most likely to disappoint.

How much will I save?

It varies considerably by procedure, by the materials specified and by the complexity of the individual case, so a single figure would be misleading. What we can give you is a written estimate for your own treatment plan, which is the number that actually matters. Why does the same treatment cost less in India?

Chiefly because the underlying cost base differs. Labour, premises, administration and insurance-related overheads are lower, and those differences flow through to what a clinic must charge. The implant systems, ceramics and equipment used are internationally recognised and sourced the same way clinics elsewhere source them.

What should I tell my own dentist?

We encourage patients to discuss the plan with their existing dentist. An initial cautious reaction is common and reasonable. Most become more comfortable once they can see the clinic's credentials, the equipment in use and the actual treatment plan, so share those rather than only the intention to travel.

Can I speak with the dentist before I travel?

Planning the trip

Will I need a passport and visa?

How do I get to Chandigarh?

Most international patients fly into New Delhi and travel onward to Chandigarh, which is served by its own airport with domestic and selected international routes, as well as by road and rail from Delhi. Tell us your arrival plans and we will schedule around them.

Where will I stay?

That is your choice, and options range widely. We keep a list of hotels near the clinic and are glad to help you narrow it, but we do not book accommodation on your behalf.

How long will I need to be in India?

It depends entirely on the treatment. Some cases are a few days; others need a couple of weeks, and some are better split across two visits. The honest answer is that nobody can tell you before the consultation and the treatment plan. What we will do is confirm the expected duration before you finalise travel.

How much notice should I give?

As much as you can. Laboratory work, appointment sequencing and your own travel all benefit from lead time. That said, we do accommodate shorter notice where the case allows, so ask rather than assume.

How do I know my treatment will finish within the time I have?

Because your available days are an input to the plan rather than an afterthought. We build the sequence around the time you have and confirm it before you travel. Where a case genuinely cannot be completed safely in the window available, we will tell you that before you book rather than after you arrive.

Do your packages include flights?

No. Flights are arranged by you. We are happy to advise on timing so that arrival and departure fit the treatment sequence.

Can my partner or family travel with me?

Yes, and many patients do. Let us know in advance so the schedule accounts for it.

At the clinic

What language is spoken at the clinic?

English, fluently, by the clinical team and staff. Hindi and Punjabi are also spoken.

What technology does the clinic use?

The clinic has in-house CBCT imaging and guided implant surgery among other equipment. You can see the equipment in use and take a visual tour of the clinic before you travel, which is worth doing.

What are the sterilisation and infection control standards?

We follow documented sterilisation and infection-control protocols consistent with international practice. If you want the specifics of our protocol, ask and we will describe it. It is a reasonable question and it should not be answered with reassurance alone.

I have not seen a dentist in years. How do I know what I need?

You do not need to know before you contact us, and most patients in this position do not.

There are two routes. Some patients have a full examination with a dentist at home first, obtain a quotation, and bring both to us. Others, and this is the larger group, have the full examination here at the first visit. Either way a complete examination including radiographs, scaling and assessment is carried out at the clinic before any treatment is planned, because a plan built on someone else's notes is not a plan we would act on.

What format should I send my records in?

For imaging, DICOM is preferred because it preserves the diagnostic data. Reports and correspondence are fine as PDF or JPEG. If you only have printed copies, photographs of them are still useful as a starting point.

I need advice specific to my case before deciding.

That is the right instinct, and we insist on a consultation before any treatment is booked. Nothing on this page substitutes for an examination, and any figure or timeline given before one is provisional.

After treatment

How soon can I fly home after treatment?

It depends on the procedure, and your treatment plan will state the minimum recovery period before flying. This is one of the reasons the plan is confirmed before you book a return flight rather than after.

Can I stay on afterwards?

Yes, and many patients do. Chandigarh sits within reach of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan, and patients frequently extend the trip once treatment is complete. Build it into the end of the visit rather than the middle, so that any follow-up appointment is not competing with a train.

Those follow a clinical examination, and a figure given before one is a guess presented as a commitment. We will give you a realistic range of what your case is likely to involve, tell you what would change it, and confirm the actual plan once Dr. Anshu has examined you.

We will also tell you if we think travelling for treatment is not the right decision in your case. That happens, and it is better said early.
